Concussion Rehabilitation Clinic

Concussions Deserve More Than Rest. It Deserves a Plan.
At High Line Active, we offer a dedicated Concussion Rehabilitation Clinic designed for the acute stages of concussion recovery—from day one through to safe clearance and confident return to performance.
We don’t guess. We follow internationally recognised guidelines, apply clinician-led decision making, and tailor your care to your individual needs—whether you’re an athlete, student, or professional.
A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Early, structured management can significantly reduce the risk of prolonged symptoms, secondary injuries, and unnecessary downtime.
Why Early Intervention Matters
The First 72 Hours Are Critical
After a concussion, the brain is in a state of metabolic vulnerability. This means:
-
Rest is important; but complete rest for too long is detrimental.
-
Guided, symptom limited activity is now the gold standard.
-
Delays in appropriate care can increase recovery time and reduce return-to-play accuracy.
✅ 80–90% of concussions resolve in under four weeks with the right management and rehabilitation.
❌ Up to 30% of cases develop post-concussion syndrome when poorly managed. (symptoms that can last for many months)
🧪 Return to sport too early can triple the risk of re-injury
CALL AN AMBULANCE -000
If there is concern after an injury including whether ANY of the following signs are observed or complaints are reported then the individual should be safely and immediately removed from play/game/activity. If no licensed healthcare professional is available, call an ambulance for urgent medical assessment:
Neck pain or tenderness
Double vision
Weakness or tingling/ burning in arms or legs
Severe or increasing headache
Seizure or convulsion
Loss of consciousness
Deteriorating conscious state
Vomiting
Increasingly restless, agitated or combative

Baseline Testing
Baseline concussion testing provides a pre-injury snapshot of an individual’s cognitive and physical function. This allows for more accurate comparison and informed decision-making post-injury. It supports safer return-to-play or school decisions by highlighting subtle changes, reducing risk of premature return, and enhancing recovery management through objective, individualised data.

Acute Concussion Assessment (0-72 hours)
Objective: Protect, Profile and Plan
- We gain a detailed history and mechanism of injury analysis
-Symptom inventory, cognitive screen, balance and oculomotor tests
- Providing you the education to make the most out of your recovery
Symptom-Guided Rehabilitation (Day 3-21)
Objective: Reintroduce activity safely. Resolve symptoms. Restore Confidence.
- Provide a Guided exposure for you to return to work, school, exercise and sport

Prevention Programs
Prevention-focused strengthening programs, particularly for the neck and upper body, can reduce concussion risk by improving stability during impact. Research shows that for every 1 kg increase in neck strength, concussion risk decreases by 10% (Collins et al., 2014). These programs are essential in high-risk sports to enhance resilience and safety.
